Get it today!

Golf Equipment Essentials - The Truth About Golf Equipment

by Robert R. Taylor

Playing golf without the right golf equipment is like swimming without water, it just does not make sense. However, as we all know purchasing golf equipment is not a cheap venture. You have to weed your way through all of the gadgets and gimmicks that people are selling with the promise of improving your golf game. If you are the type who enjoy simply playing the game of golf on your free weekends, you need nothing more than the bare golf equipment essentials. All you really need are golf balls, golf clubs, and of course a golf bag to tow your clubs.

If you take a look at the golf equipment rules as defined by the United States Golf Association your golf bag should have fourteen or less clubs. You really need to focus on your putter, wedges, irons, woods, and driver. You can feel free to mix up your clubs provided you keep the golf bag carrying only the maximum of fourteen clubs. Of course, in getting yourself the proper set up, you should expect to pay up to $1,000 for a complete golf club set.

You simply cannot do without a golf bag. Think about having to tow around your golf balls and your clubs on the golf course, you simply would not make it. Golf bags are made from a variety of materials such as nylon or leather. When choosing a bag consider how you get around while playing your game. Do you ride in a golf cart or do you walk the course? If you are someone who rides a golf cart, you will likely want to have a large enough golf bag to contain not only your clubs, but towels, balls, tees, and other accessories.

Now if you are the type that walks the course, you will definitely want to invest in a lighter golf bag that comes with a shoulder strap for a more comfortable journey. When talking about essential golf equipment, you cannot forget your golf balls. Generally, you can purchase balls in sleeves or boxes of three. You can even find packages that contain 15 to 18 balls. You have your choice in types of golf balls as well, two-piece and balata. A two-piece golf ball has a surlyn cover, a core that is hard and very large. However, these are generally more popular because the surlyn cover protects the ball from cuts and nicks. The outer layer of a balata ball is softer but has the same hard core inside.

There are many golf accessories you could consider when shopping for golf equipment such as golf shoes, golf glove, an umbrella, a club brush, ball markers, and golf tees. The decision is yours in regards to which type of golf clubs, golf balls, golf bags, and accessories you get. You have to decide based on your budget, what type of golf equipment you need, as well as how it helps your golf game.

Get your free golf report, golf equipment essentials and free weekly tips that explains a step-by-step procedure for improving your golf game. Experiment with slight variations of your grip. Observe how the changes affect the flight of the ball. A weak grip encourages a slice or fade. A strong grip encourages a hook or a draw. The V.s formed by the index finger and thumbs on both hands should point between the chin and right shoulder.
...Golf Instruction Guide

Callaway Golf Irons

Putter face inserts can be made of metal, rubber, ceramic, plastic, glass, wood and more. Do they matter? If they improve your putting, it likely will be because a better feel has increased your confidence. They are designed to provide a softer feel. They also define the area of the sweet spot, and they can help increase heel-toe weighting. They're nice, but you can do just fine without them, too.
Get greater distance on your drives with great Pinnacle golf balls from our store.

top 50 tips13. Get Behind
There's no leverage in the golf swing if you're ahead of the ball. Good players move away from the target slightly in the backswing and don't pass the ball until after impact.
...Golf Tips magazine

Headline News About Golf

Championship Sunday

Mon, 23 Jan 2006 00:00:00 GMT
Four Winners on Four Major Tours Worldwide Rely on Titleist Golf Balls

An Iron Fitting: Eric Stull

Thu, 08 Dec 2005 00:00:00 GMT
In order to optimize a player's skill and equipment, Titleist believes golfers should be fit for their clubs by a PGA golf professional. Standard golf clubs are designed for individuals bewteen five and six feet. That can be said to apply to men as well as to women. If you are taller or shorter than those measurements, then you may have to consider looking for custom made clubs.

Cast Iron or Forged Iron?

For virtually all golfers, the stock cast iron golf clubs will be the soundest way to go.

Why, you ask? Because most standard cast iron golf clubs have a larger "sweet spot". This is the are in the center of the club face where "forces" are said to be perfectly balanced to deliver the perfect shot. A larger sweet spot gives you a larger striking area and greater odds for a well-hit shot. Being a little off center will not affect your shot to any great degree. It is for that main reason the beginners are steered towards cast iron clubs. Without a steady consistant swing, a larger striking area will produce better shots overall. This is the major reason why you see larger or even "oversized" clubs made, especially the oversized drivers today. These clubs allow for a larger sweet spot and make the game a lot easier for the average player

Forged iron clubs are generally the opposite. Harder to hit with because of a smaller sweet spot on the club face.

So why would people buy a forged iron golf club?

Well, because they are made of a softer steel, they offer a better "feel" on each and every shot. The better player, with a more refined and "repeatable" swing, can use this "feel" to shape or control his shot in a way that the beginner can't. The better player doesn't need that larger sweet spot because he can strike the ball dead center with far more consistancy. He trades that off for more control.

The next thing to look at is the shaft itself. Will we get one made from steel? Or will it be a composite material?

The significant measure here is golf club velocity. A typical, everyday golfer will possess a club velocity of 80 to 94 mph. Slower speeds generally imply you should look to using a shaft made from composite material. Slower swing speeds mean less distance on your shots. Not a good thing. And that is where the composite shaft material comes in. The composite shaft will give you longer drives than you will normally get with your low swing speed and steel shafted golf clubs.

By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.

Determining your own swing speed is not difficult. If you don't have a local pro shop with the right equipment, you can find small microwave Doppler radar devices that are run by AAA batterieson the market. You simply set it near your tee and swing away.

So there you have it. Just a few quick tips but ones that will start you down the path to finding the right clubs for your game. Take the time to try different clubs and see how they hinder or help your game. If possible, even try different types of composite shafts. Different manufacturers will have different standards for shaft flex and so on. Check out as many as possible and take note of how each works for you.

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

Practice your putting stroke with a great golf home putting green today!

More Thoughts On Golf

The Tilt
Creating the proper tilt in the shoulders requires two elements: The hips must move closer to the target at the start of the downswing while the head stays slightly back. This drives the left shoulder up and the right side down.
...Golf Tips magazine

Fat Shots
Hitting the ground before the ball, or "fat shots" is a very common problem that can lead to injury. This is caused by either coming into the ball too steeply, and/or decelerating the club head as you hit the ball. Proper weight shift is important and keeping your right shoulder back on the downswing (opposite for left handers) is crucial. There is a tendency to throw the right shoulder ahead as you come down creating an outside in steep club path. Focus on swinging more around your body to remedy this. A good drill is to strap your upper arms to your body and hit balls. This makes it impossible to throw the shoulder forward. Don't forget to accelerate through the ball. When you slow down at the bottom of your swing, you will hit it fat every time.
...Tom's golf tips

The left shoulder sets up the backswing by rotating down and under the chin. This shoulder movement directs the clubhead travel to the inside of the target line. The shoulder turn determines the length of the backswing.
...US Open

Today's Golf News

Titleist Golf Clubs the Overwhelming Choice at Professional National Championship

Tue, 25 Jul 2006 00:00:00 GMT
Titleist is the Top Choice of Experience across Every Major Equipment Category

Tour Players Discuss the New Titleist PT 906F2 Fairway Metal

Wed, 13 Sep 2006 00:00:00 GMT
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" Get it today!

Which Golf Clubs Are Best For You?

By: Lee MacRae

Are you looking to buy new golf clubs? Finding it difficult to determine what will work the best for you? Newcomers especially can become bewildered by the large variety of golf clubs you see when you are looking to buy.

Follow along as we examine what is available on the market today and what they can do for you...and your golf game.

To begin with, it should be noted that ordinary, everyday golf clubs will work for virtually anybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. And it doesn't matter if you are male or female, the general rule applies. Shorter or taller golfers may need to look to the custom club for proper equipment.

Will that be cast iron or forged?

Cast iron is the normal route to take when buying new clubs.

The major reason? Because most standard cast iron golf clubs have a larger "sweet spot". That refers to the area right smack dab in the middel of the club face where you are supposed to hit the ball. A larger sweet spot gives you a larger striking area and greater odds for a well-hit shot. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Until their swing plane is more developed, they will have an easier time striking the ball on a consistant basis with the cast iron club. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.

With forged iron clubs you have the exact opposite. A smaller sweet spot that makes your drives that much harder to hit well.

So why are forged clubs even made?

Because the "softer" forged metal gives the golfer a better feel than the harder cast iron does.

The important touchstone here is golf club speed. An ordinary golf player will have a club velocity of 80-94 mph. Slower speeds normally means looking at a shaft made from composite material. Slower swing speeds mean less distance on your shots. Not a good thing. Composite shafts will allow you to get that much needed distance on your shots. And even within the composite shaft class, you will find variations in flex and materials that will affect your game.

On the other hand, if you already have good distance on your shots due to good swing speed, you can add some touch and feel to your game very similar to that obtained by using the forged iron clubs. You get the best of both worlds.

Visit your local golf pro shop or look for a store that offers custom work and they will help you to determine your own club head speed and which type of shaft you should use. Or you can buy one of the many swing speed radar devices on the market and clock your speed yourself.

With just a few small tips like this, you should be able to determine which clubs will work for you and why. Knowing why is just a important because you will be able to adjust your equipment as you improve on your game over time. If you find your swing speed improving, you may find you will be able to switch to clubs that will give you the feel and shot selection of the better players.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

Find a training aid to learn the correct golf grip today!

Additional Info On Golf Today

Keeping the left wrist in this flat position will allow the correct movement of the wrists at the top of the backswing, and the starting of the downswing, which is an up and down motion, keeping the clubface maintained in the proper position throughout the swing.
...PGA

Golf Clubs - Fairway Woods

Before spending hundred of dollars on a set, try out a friend's set to see how it feels for you. Or ask a shop if they have a trial period for a set you're interested in buying. If you can't rent the clubs out for a period of time, go to a store that has a driving net to get a feel for the clubs. You don't need to buy a full set of clubs when you are just starting out. You can get buy with a 5-wood, 7 iron, pitching wedge, sand wedge, and putter. These five clubs are enough to get you through 9 holes of golf.
Improve your golf clubs with new True Temper golf shafts from our online store.

To start with a proven ball position. Moving a golf ball even two inches forward or back in your stance can make a great deal of difference in shot consistency. Start with the ball a couple of inches inside the left heel. After you master this consistent ball position, you can experiment with other ball positions. However, a ball too far to the front of your stance will increase the chances of a slice by encouraging an outside-to-inside swing. A ball too far back in the stance will make it difficult to get the clubface closed by impact and may cause a push or a push slice.
...Golf Help

Control Your Distance
A proper divot is taken just beyond impact, but it should be shallow. Shallow divots allow you to hit your clubs consistent distances, while deep ones don't.
...Golf Tips magazine

Wedges

If you're unsure of your dedication to golf, or if you have a history of taking up a hobby only to drop it later, used clubs might be a good choice. They'll be much cheaper, of course, than new. And because they'll be so much cheaper, they can be easily replaced later.
Improve your distance and save money with Callaway used golf balls.

Golf Related News

Scott beats Moore in playoff at Nelson

Sun, 27 Apr 2008 10:25:00 EDT
IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Adam Scott felt he needed to make a statement by winning Sunday. Imagine a ball is positioned about 18 inches to 2 feet to the left [or right if you are left-handed] of the actual ball. After you hit the real ball, hit the imaginary ball as well, and to do that, you must have a full extension on the follow-through

Always club down from a driver if, in so doing, you avoid a downhill lie for your second shot. The downhill lie is the toughest of all lies to hit from. An uphill lie, though, isn't difficult at all, just so long as your club selection compensates for the slope. A flat lie is by far the best lie to hit from. So if by staying away from your driver you have the option of a flat or an uphill lie - don't think twice. Club down.

Teeing the ball higher will aid in hitting the ball farther. By teeing the ball higher, it will help achieve better launch angle and reduce backspin at impact. This will allow the ball to be hit on the up-swing - producing more carry and distance.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

To get a great golf training aid to improve your game go to golf training aids online!

More Thoughts On Golf

Playing The Game
Mechanical thoughts, especially during the backswing, have no place on the golf course. Swing issues and technical moves should be worked out on the practice range. On the course, focus on positive downswing thoughts like accelerate through impact and finish with the right shoulder toward the target. Avoid negative thoughts by visualizing the ballflight you're trying to produce, and swing with that image in mind. A consistent preshot routine helps.
...Golf Tips magazine

Ping Putters

Looking to improve your golf swing? The majority of amateur golfers are. Possibly you suffer from a golf slice, or hook. Maybe you've bought every golf swing trainer you could get your hands on and still aren't seeing the improvement you'd hoped for. If any of this sounds like you then you're the person this site is for. I was a struggling golfer, trying to find the perfect golf swing. I'd had swing analysis done, met with golf instructors, and even bought the latest greatest golf software. None of which seemed to be lowering my handicap the way I wanted it to. The fact of the matter is, once I finally found the one item that helped me it turned out I was going about my swing improvement all wrong.
Get greater distance on your drives with great Callaway golf balls.

High-Moi Putter
Blades milled from carbon steel look and feel nice, but they're not forgiving. Get a putter that's easy to use.
...Golf Tips magazine

Cleveland Wedges

Hand carts allow you to roll your bag throughout the golf course instead of having to carry them over your shoulder. There are many designs as to how they fold over so investigate which one appeals to you. There are some carts which are hands-free. They are controlled remotely and follow you around like a puppy dog. Prices range from the less expensive, no frills type to "I need all the help I can get when it comes to playing this game" hand cart. Be sure to see how the carts are put together and what type of materials are used. Are there replacement parts if anything needs to be repaired? Is there a warranty and for how long is the coverage? Some of these carts can get expensive so investigate the pros and cons to all the types available.
Practice your golf game anywhere with a great golf mat.

Putting
Forget about reading the green until you have mastered pace. Normally, what they will do is aim way right of the target and they do this for a reason. Players who are misaligned from the get go and aim right are usually players who try to swing with their arms. When they do this the ball will almost always take off to the left. So what they are doing with this "right side" target trick is trying to fix a problem before it even happens!

In theory, this shouldn't be a problem...but this is not theory, it's golf. When an "arm swinger" forces his ball back on the fairway by overcompensating his alignment, he thinks he's doing himself a favor. But on those occasions when he actually makes a good, solid full body swing, his ball zips off into the trees on the right or into a right side bunker and he gets mad, and what's worse is that by using this misaligning method he's never going to reach his full potential as a golfer.

These players need to work on the basics of their swing, using their body as a whole and not just their arms. But they also need to know what their alignment is.

So how can you (or anyone else for that matter) see what your alignment is to the target?

Well, here's a simple and very effective tip to determine what your target alignment really is.

Take a stance (your usual stance), aim at a target that you would hit at, and then lay a club down on the ground from toe to toe. Now step back about 8 or 10 paces behind the ball and club that you laid down and sight down the club. Sighting down this club will reveal your alignment.

If the club is a bit left of the target, then you're fine. But if it's to the right of the target, you are out of alingment. Simple but effective.

If you discover that you are out of alignment (that the club on the ground is pointing to the right of the target) then you need to work on squaring up your stance.

Being square to the target is one of the most important tips in golf. Every ball you hit will be effected by this stance--either in a good way or (if you're in a misaligned stance) a bad way. It really is that simple.

Now when you are certain that you are in a square stance, hit a few balls. If the ball goes way left of the target, you know you are pulling it by trying to use too much of your arms. If the ball goes way right, you know you are allowing your body to slide too much through impact.

By being in a square stance and evaluating a few practice shots, you can determine a lot about your swing and those areas that you need to work on.

Check out Golf Training Aid Online

Golf Snippets

This is a very common problem for golfers and it's an awkward adjustment. The solution is very simple, however. Instead of setting your driver behind the ball such that the center of the face is aligned with the ball, move backwards a couple of inches (towards your back) such that the toe of your driver is aligned with the ball. Now do the test again. Stretch out your arms and pick the club up to the ball's height. Is the ball aligned with the center of the driver face? If so, put the club back down and fire! If not, keep moving back until it is.
...PGA Tour

Don't grip the club too tightly. A tight grip inhibits a smooth swing and follow-though. Also, keep the grips on your clubs in good condition. Worn grips force you to hold the club too tightly. Replace the grips on your clubs as they get worn and smooth. When first learning the grip, keep a club around the house and practice gripping and regripping the club a few minutes each day. Remember to keep fingers secure and arms relaxed.
...PGA of America

Weighted Practice Club
Swing one of these properly (smoothly), and your technique will improve, just like Vijay's does.
...Golf Tips magazine

More Golf News

Justin Rose: 'In his heart of hearts Justin knows that he has the ability'

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 00:00:01 +0100
<p>As a close friend of Ian Poulter, Justin Rose is only too aware of the pitfalls of making the grand statement. But while the former continues to be pilloried for declaring that it is only a matter of time before he is world No 2, the latter continues to plot a far more subtle course to that startling height. While Poulter is saying it, Rose is actually believing it.</p>

Titleist. History has it that there are things that seem to be peculiar on their make-up hundreds of years ago which eventually came up with a better composition based on scientific research. And a golf ball is the best paradigm of this theoretical stand in history.

During the earliest days of golf on the eastern coast of Scotland, most players used ancient apparatus in order to play the game in a more disorganized and informal way. Here, the first clubs and golf balls are made up of wood.

It was on 1618 that the feather golf ball was finally introduced. This was commonly known as the "Featherie". This feather golf ball was a handcrafted ball made with goose feathers securely pressed into a horse or cowhide sphere. This is being done while the ball is still wet. After drying, the leather shrank and the feathers expanded creating a hardened ball.

But because these kinds of golf balls are specially handcrafted, they usually cost higher than the clubs. In doing so, only a few privileged people could afford to play golf during those times.

Next came the Guttie golf ball. This prehistoric kind of golf ball was made from the rubber like sap of the Gutta tree that can be found in the tropics. Normally, these Guttie balls can be easily shaped into a sphere when hot and eventually used as a golf ball. With its rubber nature, guttie balls can be cheaply reproduced and can be easily repaired by reheating and reshaping.

However, between the two earliest forms of golf balls, the feather golf ball was said to travel farther than the gutties. This is due to the smooth surface of the gutties that limits the capacity of the golf ball to cover more distance.

With this new scientific analysis, the developers of golf ball finally came up with balls with the "dimples" that are predominant in modern golf balls nowadays.

Dimples are crafted into golf balls so as to reduce the aerodynamic drag, which will be acting on the ball if it were totally smooth. This is because smooth balls, when sailing through the air, leave a huge pocket of low-pressure air in its stir therefore creating a drag. With the application of drag, the ball slows down.

Hence, by having dimples on golf balls, the pressure differential goes down and the drag force is reduced. These dimples create turbulence in the air surrounding the golf ball. This, in turn, forces the air to clasp the golf ball more closely. By doing so, the air trails the warp created by the ball towards the back instead of flowing past it. This results to a smaller wake and lesser drag.

Dimples also help players to put backspin on a shot making the golf ball break off on the putting green.

The idea of putting dimples on golf balls can be traced back during the gutta percha phase. Coburn Haskell introduced the one-piece rubber cored ball encased in a gutta percha sphere. It was during this time when the players observed how their shots become more and more predictable as their balls turned rough from play.

When William Taylor applied the dimple pattern to a Haskell ball in 1905, golf balls finally took their modern form.

From then on, dimpled golf balls were officially used in every golf tournament. In 1921, the golf balls took its form with standard size and weight.

Today, there is an abundant selection of golf balls to fit different golf game and condition. There are golf balls that offer control, while some offer distance. In whatever ways golf balls vary, only one thing is common and known. Golf balls are not just elements of the sports arena; they are more than ever paradigm of a concept in physics.

Get a great golf wedge online!

Some Golf Ideas

There are a number of possible reasons for hitting behind the ball. If you are not shifting your weight properly on the downswing, from the back leg to the front leg, your swing will bottom out before the club gets to the ball. Also, if you do not keep your head steady, you do not know where your swing will bottom out. Also, if you do not keep your leading arm reasonably straight, the arc of your swing will vary, so you can improve your consistency by focusing on these 3 areas.
...US Golf Association

Golf Sounds Like a Great Idea
Too many would be golfers, particularly youngsters - head off to the local municipal course, hire a basic set of clubs and start hitting off the tee with no idea of how to hold the club, never mind striking the ball correctly. Even worse, there are those who limit practice to trying their hand in the local park - this is a dangerous and in many cases forbidden activity. The existence of the shouted warning "fore" on a course to indicate a ball in flight that may be close to other golfers is not simply for effect. A golf ball struck with force is a potentially lethal projectile and should never be used without regard for either safety or surroundings.
...mastering golf UK

To develop the best possible grip for you. Every golfer swings and grips the club differently. Over 90 percent of golfers use the Vardon or overlapping grip. Players with smaller hands sometimes find the interlocking grip, with the little finger of the right hand interlocked with the index finger of the left hand, works best for them. Players with smaller should use a baseball type grip.
...Golf Instruction Guide

Wear Wristbands
A must if you want to look cool.
...Golf Tips magazine

Today's Golf News

BACK TO BACK. And it doesn't matter if you are male or female, the general rule applies. If you are taller or shorter than those measurements, then you may have to consider looking for custom made clubs.

Cast Iron or Forged Iron Golf Club?

The answer normally is "cast iron".

The major reason? Because of the bigger "sweet spot" we tend to find on clubs made with cast iron. This is the are in the center of the club face where "forces" are said to be perfectly balanced to deliver the perfect shot. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. It is for that main reason the beginners are steered towards cast iron clubs. Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.

Conversely, forged iron golf clubs have a much smaller sweet spot and it is far more difficult to hit a ball well with this kind of club.

So why are forged clubs even sold?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced player has a much more defined and repeatable swing, allowing them to hit the smaller sweet spot with much more consistancy. They don't need that larger "margin of error" the beginner needs. And now, the better "feel" allows him or her the added advantage of being able to manoevre and/or "shape" each shot to the circumstances as needed.

The shaft of the club is the next item to look at. What will it be made of? A composite or steel?

The significant factor here is club head speed. A typical golfer will have a club velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed means you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material, not steel. The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.

For those of you with faster swing speeds, and subsequenlty good distances, steel shafted clubs will give you a lot more control on your shots. This is very similar to the advantages of iron over cast clubs.

In order to determine your personal swing speed, look for a sports shop or golf store that has speed sensor equipment and get yourself clocked.

With simply these few starting hints, it is ordinarily best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or impedes your game. You are searching to learn your personal strengths as well as weaknesses. Use as many clubs as you can beg, borrow, steal or rent. The more you use, the more you will learn about your own game.

If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

Improve your game with your own custom fit golf club now!

Golf Snippets

To a beginning golfer hitting a golf ball seems easy until they try it. Golf can be a sometimes frustrating, and time-consuming game to learn. My recommendation is that players practice patience by not hurrying to the golf course to learn how to play. Do your learning on the practice range where your mind will not be on scoring, but on learning.
...PGA professional golf

Level Legs
The lack of traction in bunkers forces the legs to function differently than they do on full shotsthey must maintain their flex during the entire swing instead of posting up through impact. This will keep you nice and level through the shot.
...Golf Tips magazine

When you slow down at the bottom of your swing, you will hit it fat every time.
...PGA Tour

Leg Angle
The lower leg should angle away from the ball at setup. This helps the body weight move off the heels and into the balls of the feet. This is an athletic position that really works.
...Golf Tips magazine

Try for a relaxed and comfortable feel. Get it today!

For The Beginner - Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?

By: Lee MacRae

Are you looking to buy new golf clubs? Finding it difficult to determine what will work the best for you? Newcomers especially can become bewildered by the large variety of golf clubs you see when you are looking to buy.

We will go through a few basic tips to help you determine which golf clubs are right for you.

To begin with, it can be stated that "off the shelf" golf clubs will work for nearly everybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. That principle applies to both men and women. Everyone else will want to consider having clubs made to fit.

Will that be cast iron or forged?

The answer normally is "cast iron".

The major reason? Because of the larger "sweet spot" you tend to find on the cast iron clubs. The trem refers to the best area on the club face that will give you the maximum range and accuracy on a shot. The larger the "sweet spot" on a club face, the more area you have to strike the ball well. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. Beginners especially benefit from that standard cast iron feature. Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. That is why clubs like "Big Bertha" came on the market. The large oversized head obviously gives a much larger sweet spot than a normal driver. Average golfers get longer and straighter drives on a more consistant basis.

By contrast, forged iron golf clubs are "harder to hit" a good shot with as they have a smaller sweet spot.

So why are forged clubs even sold?

This is due to the fact that forged iron offers a better "feel" on your shot because it is a softer metal than cast iron. The better players, on the other hand, will give up that larger sweet spot [and even some distance] to get that better feel of each and every shot they take. With a more consistant swing, they usually strike the ball dead center on most shots anyway. With the better feel of the forged iron club, they can draw, fade, hook or slice the ball deliberately when circumstances on the golf course require it.

The next consideration is the material for the shaft. Steel or composite?

The significant factor here is club speed. A typical golfer will have a club head velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed usually signifies you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material . The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.

By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.

Visit your local golf pro shop or look for a store that offers custom work and they will help you to determine your own club head speed and which type of shaft you should use. Or you can buy one of the many swing speed radar devices on the market and clock your speed yourself.

With merely these few starting points, it is usually best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club aids or hinders your game. You are seeking to see your individual strong points or weaknesses. Try the various types and kinds of golf clubs available to you and, in time, you will be able to determine which clubs offer the best advantages for your game.

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

Start our right with a great beginners's golf training aid now!

Thoughts On Golf

The grip most certainly will influence the clubhead, but any type of grip that will keep the wrists from opening or closing the blade is a good grip regardless of how the hands grip the club. Whatever grip is chosen the thumbs should be on top. The thumbs are the feelers and being on top one can feel if the blade is square. Any stroke that holes the ball consistently is a good putting stroke. Regardless of the style of the stroke the putter head should never be taken to the outside of the target line on the backswing.
...World Golf

Keeping the left wrist in this flat position will allow the correct movement of the wrists at the top of the backswing, and the starting of the downswing, which is an up and down motion, keeping the clubface maintained in the proper position throughout the swing.
...PGA

Assisted Training Schemes
In terms of lessons, the financial aspect again can be a constraining factor. However, it is worth approaching the council about assisted training schemes, some of which are run in conjunction with golfing associations. For example, the English Golf Union (www.englishgolfunion.org), the national amateur governing body, launched a Get Into Golf initiative aimed at introducing more people to the sport regardless of age, background or gender, and together with the English Ladies' Golf Association organised a programme of free taster sessions, including hire of clubs, at participating venues across the country to do just that. Such initiatives mean that even if an individual does not have the money, they are still capable of participating and enjoying the game by making a much more important investment, namely the time to develop their skills and hopefully spread the word about the benefits of taking up the game.
...mastering golf UK

Try for a relaxed and comfortable feel. In order to successfully take your skills to the course, however, you need to adapt to many different types of playing conditionsincluding hilly, sloping terrain.
...Golf Link

More Golf News

Over 100 Wins and Still Counting.

Wed, 10 Aug 2005 00:00:00 GMT
Goosen Gains Momentum Heading into Year’s Final Major with Win at The International.
Four-Win Week Vaults Titleist Golf Ball Victory Count to More than 100 in 2005.

TITLEIST ANNOUNCES FREE PERSONALIZATION GOLF BALL PROMOTION

Tue, 01 Apr 2008 00:00:00 GMT
FREE personalization and a FREE Titleist ball marker with each personalized dozen.

World Class Momentum

Mon, 16 Apr 2007 00:00:00 GMT
Weekley, Lincicome, Brier Lead Titleist Golf Ball Players to 5-Win Week.

Louise Friberg Earns First LPGA Tour Win With Titleist

Mon, 17 Mar 2008 00:00:00 GMT
Denis Watson Tops Loren Roberts in Pro V1 Playoff

womens golf clubs
custom golf balls

Golf Accessories Information

Golf Article Of The Month

You will find a lot of easy tips and techniques in this eBook to quickly transform your golf game and add 20 yards to your drive!

Golf Tips Involving Golf Equipment

By Lee MacRae

Blaming your moves, shots and swings for your golf mishits and mishaps? Well, no matter how much time and effort you have been spending over practicing your moves to perfect your game, you still won't achieve your goal if you use unsuitable or defective types of golf equipment, will you?

Now is high time for you to consider the following golf tips that involve checking on your equipment's quality.

If you plan to choose used golfclubs as beginner's tools, scrutinizing before purchasing is a must. The clubheads, the shafts, and the grips are golfclub parts that should pass inspection first before landing a decent spot in your golf equipment cabinet. Another excellent golf tip that will get you through the game is making sure that the set of used golfclubs you're eyeing have set consistency. It will also help a lot if you check first the price of new clubs vs. used.

A golf tip for a golfer that plans to regrip his clubs: Be cautious. This is because the grips are the only contact points one can access to affect the shot. Before carrying out the regripping, know the core grip of the club and your hands grip size. To determine your core size grip, measure the diameter of the butt of the shaft you're going to re-grip. The shaft's diameter should match the grip's core diameter. In determining your hands grip, the available size grips are regular, mid-size, oversize and jumbo. Use only the best re-gripping materials that will provide optimum performance for your golf clubs.

Another golf tip or advice is that using ill-fitted clubs will be an obstacle to your golf playing success. A golfer must consider his or her body type in choosing the best-fitting equipment to support and deliver his backswings efficiently. Too steep angles in carrying out backswings may be avoided if one selects the perfect fitting equipment available.

Custom golfclub fitting makes a better option than just buying new golf clubs. Getting custom fitting golfclubs is a golf tip that translates to a very worthy investment. The uniqueness of each person is attributed to the need of this way of buying new golf clubs. A custom fitting produces golfclubs that specifically suit the height, strength, swing characteristics and clubhead speed of the golfer.

The type of club shaft also helps in predicting whether you'll do good in a game or you won't. There's a choice between a steel club shaft and a graphite-made club shaft. This golf tip aims to make you realize which type of golfclub shaft will benefit your game. Observations tell that the steel club shafts are more preferred by professional golfers while graphite shafts become more popular with women, senior players and beginners. Steel shafts are less expensive than graphite shafts though.

One more golf tip that could help you is that the golf clubs that must be the main content of your bag must suit your skill level. Since various skill levels need various golf clubs, it won't be wise to just use or bring a golf club that is just lying around. And, don't ever forget about the maximum golfclub load your bag is allowed to hold. You can only bring 14 golf clubs in your bag. No more. No less. Aside from your skill level contemplation, your mastery of a certain golfclub and your being comfortable with using it must also be put into consideration in deciding which golfclub to hit.

A good combination of the right moves and good choice of equipment will better arm you to become the best golfer you could ever be.

Get a great golf iron online

Some Golf Ideas

Stick to your routine
More than anything you need to have your routine. Next time you watch Tiger or Ernie look at their routine. That's their way of feeling comfortable. I walk up to a shot and look where I want it to go. Next I take a practice swing. Then I cock my club back, once looking at the target, then two more times. It's then that I'm relaxed and ready to hit the shot.
...BBC golf

Standing on the tee or fairway, a player very often will not be able to see the green. Perhaps the fairway bends, or doglegs, to the left with the approach to the green and flag obscured by a line of trees. An inexperienced player would be well advised in this situation to take the safe option and aim to position the ball to just beyond the line of trees, leaving it in a position where the flag is visible. From there, it would be a straightforward approach shot.
...mastering golf UK

Passersby
Although they might look somewhat similar, the mechanics of hitting a bunker shot are different than those used to play a chip shot from grass. In the sand, it's actually advantageous to allow the clubhead to pass your hands past impact. This move encourages a higher, softer shot by increasing the clubhead speed and amount of spin that can be created. Due to the unstable nature of sand, think of these shots as more handsy than most others in golf.
...Golf Tips magazine

Kneework
The right knee should remain flexed, but it must rotate on the backswing to allow the hips to complete their turn. When done properly, this allows the weight to work into the right heel.
...Golf Tips magazine

To a beginning golfer hitting a golf ball seems easy until they try it. Golf can be a sometimes frustrating, and time-consuming game to learn. My recommendation is that players practice patience by not hurrying to the golf course to learn how to play. Do your learning on the practice range where your mind will not be on scoring, but on learning.
...PGA professional golf

Today's Golf News

Titleist Sets Standard as The Overwhelming Tee-to-Green Equipment Choice at 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Sun, 24 Jul 2005 00:00:00 GMT
Tops Golf Ball Count with 147 of 156 Players in Field

Titleist Blazes Worldwide Leaderboards in 2005

Tue, 03 Jan 2006 00:00:00 GMT
Unmatched Success Continues for the #1 Ball in Golf

James Lawton: - Work and then Pay

By: Jeff Gustafson

"If you are interested in improving your game, I would highly recommend helping your head as much as you are helping your swing..."

The above was a quote from Rob Mangini, former assistant men's golf coach at Arizona State University in the book "The Mental Keys to Improving Your Golf". In other words, understand and know what works then concentrate on doing the work.

Unfortunately, when it comes to golf usually us regular, recreational golfers don't think beyond "gripping it and ripping it". We don't really want to put in the time. We just want to hit that sucker. Forget the golf training aid.

And yet in all my years of golfing, I haven't met a golfer yet that doesn't want to improve his or her golf game.

Getting better is not going to just happen, especially if you want to be consistent. It requires giving some serious attention to the four fundamentals of golf - mechanical, strategic, physical and mental. Now isn't that interesting. How many of the (4) do you as a golfer have a handle on? I would bet that most average golfers don't even think of (3) of the (4) and, to be honest, their mechanics probably aren't necessarily "all that".

Professional golfers know its work and then pay and that is the very foundation of what Strategy Golf is all about - focusing on doing "the work" the ultimate golf training aid.

Any sport requires practice. But golf requires so much more. It is you and you alone against the golf course, the elements, and your even your own demons. It is you that has to make the shot or sink the putt.

You can't focus on winning; you can't focus on the other players or you open the door to the fear of losing or missing that putt and letting bad shots or mistakes get you angry and that usually leads to something other than the winner's circle.

Putting your attention on your Strategy and not on your competition or the consequences of missing a putt is of ultimate importance in competition. All things being equal, if you play to your game-plan (golf training aid) and focus on what you are doing, and perform at your optimum then the outcome will take care of itself.

Think about what you can do to keep your focus on the YOUR task so that you play your game. Write out a strategy (golf training aid)...stick to a routine...and stay with the game-plan by reviewing and refocusing on each tee.

It is a fact that written goals have a way of coming true. By thinking through your approach and actually taking the time to put it all down on paper seems to cement the plan for good. So write out that strategy - your game-plan of how you intend to play each hole.

Golfers ignore this step in their preparation for a couple of reasons: One, it takes some time and many of us would just as rather "grip it and rip it!". But secondly, too many of us are so used to "resolutions" not coming true that we are not convinced writing anything down is going to work. There is another element to all of this: you have to truly want what you desire to come true. Most New Years resolutions are desires of the moment - weight you want to get off because you feel frumpy after the holiday meals; starting the exercise program that will give you that hard body but you really don't want to put in the time and effort and miss that piece of pie. Unless the desire is in your gut it isn't going to happen.

They key to success here is first wanting it bad enough, then putting in the time to be prepared, and finally writing out a game-plan to keep focused and on task (the perfect golf training aid). The question you have to ask yourself: "Do I want it bad enough to do the work to see the result?"

Article by Jeff Gustafson - Pocket Pro www.the-sixth-man.com www.pocketproonline.com

Some Golf Ideas

When you want to get some extra distance out of your drives, its natural to think that your right or dominant hand (for right-handed golfers) should supply the power. In reality, however, maximum power is a result of a left-hand lead.
...golf news

top 50 tips9. What I mean by flat is in relation to the back of the left forearm, and the back of the left hand for right-handed players with the opposite for the left-handed players. To deviate from this position will roll the clubface out of position.
...Golf Week

Golf Related News

Titleist Golf Ball Operations To Be Featured on National Geographic Channel

Thu, 06 Mar 2008 00:00:00 GMT

Titleist Tour Report: The Memorial

Fri, 02 Jun 2006 00:00:00 GMT
Check out this week's Titleist Tour report from The Memorial, featuring the defending champion Bart Bryant.

indoor putting greens
golf wedges
golf drivers
ping golf | custom golf clubs | ping golf clubs

My Weighted Golf training Club Reviews

Our Featured Golf Writer

Get this best selling golf eBook and Mp3 audio file to improve your skill level

Sand Trap Tips And Tecniques

By Lee MacRae

Getting out of a bunker or sand trap in one shot can do wonders for your confidence and your golf game. Follow along as we lay out some tips, tricks and hints to help you with your sand play and watch the improvement in your next round of golf.

The sand shot hit from a downhill lie is one of the toughest of all. Here's how to hit it; the key is ball position. As with other downhill shots, you should play the ball back in your stance, in this case roughly opposite your right foot. Next, swing the club up abruptly, breaking your wrists. Keeping your legs and torso steady, hit into the sand 2 inches behind the ball. Follow through normally. There is not much margin for error on this shot, so once you've picked a spot where you want the club to make contact with the sand, concentrate on hitting that exact spot and followed through.

One way to prevent dipping and hitting your ball heavy when playing a long bunker shot is to concentrate on keeping the knees "on the same level" throughout the swing. Note that we say he "on the same level" and not just "level". The idea is to stop you from lifting up or bending down. If you lift up, either you hit the ball thin or you run the risk of hitting it fat if you bend down again. If you bend down first, you'll almost definitely hit the ball fat.

A good way to gauge distance on a sand shot is to think of hitting the ball twice as far. Let's say you have a sand shot of 25 feet. Hit it with the same power that you would use for a fairway shot of 50 feet. A word of warning; this system works well on medium to long sand shots. On the short touch shots you're better off practicing to get a feel for finesse. After all, you may well have a 6 foot long sand shot, but how many 12 foot long fairway shots do you ever have?

The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

Improve your golf putting stroke with a golf putting aid now!

Golf Snippets

Free Turn
The lower body should serve to support the movement of the upper body by leading the backswing. Flexed and relaxed, the legs are able to be moved by the rotation of the upper body, in no way inhibiting the turn. While the legs don't initiate the backswing, they contribute to the wind up of the body against the ground. A good thought is to imagine the legs as braces that connect you to the ground.
...Golf Tips magazine

Wear Wristbands
A must if you want to look cool.
...Golf Tips magazine

When starting the downswing the shoulders should be passive, allowing the forward motion of the legs to pull the right shoulder down and forward, squaring the shoulders to the target line at impact. If the shoulders have moved into an open position (facing to the left of the target) prior to impact, the clubhead will travel outside-to-inside of the target line. This brings the clubhead over the ball promoting an over the top move.
...US Open

Set up your shots correctly
You won't get very far in a car without knowing how to use its controls. And it's exactly the same for golf. It's really no more complicated than feeling comfortable and balanced over the ball. The first place to start is making sure you aim correctly. As a general rule, you should keep club face square to the target. The exception to this is when you are deliberately trying to hook or slice the ball. It should be square to your body - wherever you are in your backswing. Try stopping your club at a variety of positions in your swing. The most important thing to remember is that the club head should be square to your body at all times.
...BBC golf

Headline News About Golf

Masters clubhouse scores

Tue, 22 May 2007 16:38:53 GMT
Latest scores from Augusta.

SI's Gary Van Sickle makes his Masters Sunday picks

Sat, 12 Apr 2008 18:55:00 EDT
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- It's all come down to the Big Six. Tension should be avoided at all costs. Instead, the setup should have a light and bouncy feel that gets you ready to move freely in an athletic way. Tension restricts the body from moving properly and requires the hands and arms to play too active a role in the swing. Rehearse your setup carefully, and your swing will improve.
...Golf Tips magazine

I cant tell you how many people come to my lesson tee and say, If I could just get rid of my baseball swing, then all my problems would be solved! My initial thought is always: I wish you had a baseball swing, because it would help you play better golf.
...The Golf Channel

Headline News About Golf

Four Tours. Considering the size of modern-day driver clubfaces, this can seem quite high. But teeing the ball higher reduces the distance the clubface will be from your body when striking the ball, reducing the error of a mis-hit. A half inch or so may not seem like a big deal, but considering how off your shot can be when your clubface is off even a fraction of an inch at impact, every bit helps.

Stay flat. Your driving wood should stay along the ground for a least the first 20 to 25 percent of your swing. If your club is lifting up, you will pop the ball up and not get that long boring drive that you see the pros hit regularly.(when the ball takes off like a missile and slowly climbs to a beautiful height and tracks down the fairway).

A great way to keep the clubhead traveling down the target line after contact is to think of yourself as hitting two balls. Imagine a ball is positioned about 18 inches to 2 feet to the left [or right if you are left-handed] of the actual ball. After you hit the real ball, hit the imaginary ball as well, and to do that, you must have a full extension on the follow-through

We hope these simple tips help you to drive the ball straighter and farther. And that will happen if you take them with you to the driving range and work on them diligently. Use them whenever you meet the specific situation on the faiway, the bunker or on the putting green and see your success happen.

Improve your game with your own custom fit golf club now!

Let's Talk About Golf

You cant fire a gun unless you pull the trigger, right? A similar concept also applies to the golf swing, which also usually requires a trigger move to get the body moving. Now, not everyone has a trigger, some manage to swing well from a static position to a dynamic position. But for the rest of us who often find confusion when it comes to where to start the golf swing, a trigger move can help you start swinging in a fluid and consistent manner.
...golf news

The clubhead should be descending at impact with the exception of the Driver and the Putter.

In general, a sand shot should be hit with a sand wedge, with both the stance and the clubface opened wide. The idea is to hit the sand and let it carry the ball out of the bunker. You should aim to make contact with the sand about two inches behind the ball and hit under and through. An important point here; with few exceptions, you should make a full fall through.

Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play and understanding the subtleties of the various problems you can encounter will actually lead you to even enjoy the play from a sand bunker. I'm sure these tips will help you to enjoy your next round of golf.

Prevent fatigue and keep your golf swing strong all day with improved golf fitness!

Golf Snippets

We do play our serious golf during the serious-golf-season from spring to early fall, and during late fall and winter we should relax and play for the fun of it - particularly since we only get to play once every so often. Once the warm days of spring come back we get serious again
...PGA Tour

The grip most certainly will influence the clubhead, but any type of grip that will keep the wrists from opening or closing the blade is a good grip regardless of how the hands grip the club. Whatever grip is chosen the thumbs should be on top. The thumbs are the feelers and being on top one can feel if the blade is square. Any stroke that holes the ball consistently is a good putting stroke. Regardless of the style of the stroke the putter head should never be taken to the outside of the target line on the backswing.
...World Golf

WHEN YOU PLAY A LOT BUT CAN'T IMPROVE
It's time to back go back to fundamentals and see a pro. Keep a record of where you are losing strokes and concentrate on improving those parts of your game. Start with a review of your grip and stance. That's where most problems begin. Also, try to swing with the proper tempo and with 80% of your power.
...Tom's golf tips

To develop the best possible grip for you. Every golfer swings and grips the club differently. Over 90 percent of golfers use the Vardon or overlapping grip. Players with smaller hands sometimes find the interlocking grip, with the little finger of the right hand interlocked with the index finger of the left hand, works best for them. Players with smaller should use a baseball type grip.
...Golf Instruction Guide

Practice grounds
Many facilities have practice grounds, which provide an ideal environment in which to get to grips with the basics. If there is a professional in residence, arranging some lessons will ensure that the new player begins developing good habits right from the off. This is a much better option than finding further up the learning curve that some of the less beneficial aspects of your technique are difficult to straighten out. Remember that some golfers find such bad habits can last a lifetime.
...mastering golf UK

Headline News About Golf

The Knockdown Shot (video)

Mon, 17 Apr 2006 00:00:00 GMT
RJ Harper, Director of Golf at Pebble Beach, demonstrates four keys to hitting a successful knockdown shot.

Titleist Tour Report: 84 Lumber Classic

Wed, 20 Sep 2006 00:00:00 GMT
When the Ryder Cup begins this week at the K Club in Ireland, more players will trust Titleist golf balls than any other ball, including Ryder Cup veteran David Toms and rookie Brett Wetterich.

To learn more go to golf training aids

Thoughts On Golf

Find Your Swing Plane
You can swing on an upright or flat plane and be effective. However, if you want to be neutral, keep your left arm running up through your left shoulder at the top.
...Golf Tips magazine

To achieve the goal of hitting the ball at the bottom of the swing arc. Your drives should be hit slightly on the upswing, iron shots are struck slightly on the downswing. Fairway woods are hit at the bottom of the swing arc.
...Golf Help

Headline News About Golf
New Season of Golf Fitness Academy Presented by Titleist Premieres on The Golf Channel

Mon, 11 Jul 2005 00:00:00 GMT
Second season begins July 11th with the first of 10 new episodes for 2005

Titleist Tour Report: The INTERNATIONAL

Fri, 11 Aug 2006 00:00:00 GMT
Ernie Els is featured in this week's Titleist Tour Report from The INTERNATIONAL, site of Els' debut on the PGA Tour back in 1991.
